September’s FinOps Foundation Virtual Summit was centered around exchanging information on using FinOps beyond public cloud. Hearing speakers like Kumar Yarlagadda (The Heineken Company), Chris Reed (Priceline), Karl Kraft (Walmart), Tammy Burnitt (Shell), and Dean Oliver (FinOps Foundation) talk about how FinOps can be used outside of the public cloud was again very interesting.
Going beyond public cloud entered discussions a number of times recently in our own consulting practice so this session was very well timed and spot on. Increasingly we see companies that adopt a “SaaS First” strategy struggling with different pricing tables and structures or even struggling to compare offerings between different vendors in product selections because the rate cards have become so complex. If there was ever a use case for FinOps FOCUS outside of the public cloud: it is here already.
